The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 8
Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.
Dark Treacle Fondant is the whisky today, from Wemyss Malts, which is a 2002 Craigellachie 12yo at 46%. We're betting there's some sherry cask influence going on in here.
On the nose there is indeed something dark and treacle-like. Also very strong notes of fruit jam (dark fruits of course).
On the palate the treacle and dark fruits are evident. It's a thick, rich whisky. Very tasty. A hint of tobacco and wood in there too.
The finish is long and rich with dark chocolate, glace cherries, oak and sherry.
With water the nose becomes a little earthier, the palate is just as luxurious and the finish is a touch smoother but long and decadent.
This is a fine after-dinner dram for those long, dark nights. A touch of luxury.
