The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar - Door Number 6
Each day in December until Christmas Day we are opening a door on The Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and posting our tasting notes on our blog.
We've put up the Christmas tree and are settling down to our latest whisky from the calendar. Today it's another cask-strength one from The Malt Whisky Co.: a Tullibardine Bourbon cask at 60.9%. This may require a splash of water!
On the nose there's vanilla and honey, as you might expect from a bourbon cask, with some malted barley and beeswax. This one's got quite a summery nose, like haybales in the sun.
On the palate it's quite hot and definitely needs some water added. There's honey and a hint of lemon peel.
The finish continues the honey theme with some wood notes and something vegetal. There's a dusting of cocoa at the end and a hint of cloves throughout.
With water the nose...the palate becomes creamy but still loaded with honey and lemon although some gentle spices appear later on.
This is quite an in-your-face dram which definitely needs some water and might not appeal to everyone but it's worth giving it time to open up a bit.
